Don’t get us wrong, we’re all for racing. Grand Tour top steps, Classic’s Monuments—they’re in our DNA. But sometimes riding simply to ride, riding for the love of riding, is just what we need. And this is what the Aethos lives for. Sure, it’s given nothing up to performance, and happens to be the lightest frame out there, but with no compromise to style. Aethos: Billions of calculations in the pursuit of one thing—the perfect ride.
Top off the world’s lightest frame with SRAM’s 12-speed RED eTAP AXS groupset and Roval’s featherweight Alpinist wheels and you’re left with a perfectly balanced top-tier ride that gives up nothing in the name of performance.
The Aethos frame has been designed with the perfect combination of ultimate ride feel, light weight, and style—from accelerating up steep pitches and descending technical descents, to all-day saddle comfort on even the longest coffee rides, the Aethos hits the mark. But how, you ask? By reinventing the traditional road shape found on bikes of the past, we’ve subtly altered these shapes to deliver massive gains in stiffness and balance, all without affecting weight or durability. Pair that with an entirely new layup and process that we’ve perfected over multiple decades and you have the lightest frame out there (585 grams, S-Works, size 56cm). The Aethos is more than just a new bike, it’s the first of a new breed.
A featherweight frame is useless without confidence-inspiring ride characteristics, which is why we’ve developed the Aethos to have the perfect balance of front and rear stiffness combined with exceptional ride quality. By studying the flexing and breathing of carbon fiber, we were able to discover groundbreaking findings about how forces flow through frames. Just a few pedal strokes and you’ll realize this sublime ride sets a new standard.
Every detail, from the derailleur hangers to the fork expander plug have been designed with style, weight, and durability in mind. We’ve also spec’d it with Roval’s all-new Alpinist carbon seatpost and wheels, further saving weight and improving ride characteristics. Everything in pursuit for the perfect ride.

Our engineers like to joke that, "if it looks fast, it probably is." But there’s some truth to that, and Áspero-5 looks fast standing still. No cables in the wind, tube shapes from our aerodynamically-proven library, and a hint of a cut out in the seat tube, all add up to a bike that proves the adage.
LIGHTWEIGHT SPEED
Some might say aero doesn’t matter on a gravel bike, but if you’ve battled a headwind across an open prairie, the thirty-two grams of drag you’ll save with the Áspero-5 come as a welcome respite. Most gravel racing is done without the benefit of a World Tour peloton—or World Tour tactics—and when it’s your nose in the wind all day, it’s nice to know your bike’s shouldering a bit of the load.
TWO-POSITION ADJUSTMENT
Trail—front-wheel response to rider input—is the most critical factor in high-velocity handling. Flipping the two-position "Trail Mixer" to compensate for the difference in circumference between a 650b and 700c tire maintains consistent handling by maintaining consistent trail figures.
MULTIPLE CONFIGURATIONS
We designed Aspero to fit most 700c x 42mm or 650b x 49mm wheel/tire combinations. Of course, there are variables—rim width, tire casing, and tread depth—which will affect final clearance. We (and the International Organization for Standardization, or ISO), always recommend 4mm of clearance between the tire and frame.
AKE FRIENDS WITH THE WIND
You can, in fact, reinvent the wheel. Meet Turbulent Aero, a unique R&D program that leverages real world wind data to create the most rapid, stable, and best handling wheels in real world riding conditions.

What is it about gravel that's so appealing? Is it the break from hectic city streets and cars? Is it the audible crunch of rocks beneath your tires? Or maybe it's just the feeling of adventure? Whatever it is the Turbo Creo SL EVO is here to assist you further into the forest down the gravel road or on your next adventure. It features the same motor battery and frame as its road-oriented cousin but takes advantage of tire clearance and adds in some adventure-ready components to take you wherever your heart desires. It's you only faster.
The Turbo Creo SL Expert EVO features out Fact 11r carbon chassis. Yes that's the same one on the S-Works model and you'll also get the new Future Shock 2.0. For the spec we included a 1x Shimano Ultegra Di2 build with an XT rear derailleur and an 11-42t cassette to take on shifting and braking duties while Roval C 38 Disc carbon wheels get wrapped in 38mm Pathfinder Pro 2Bliss Ready tires to keep you rolling worry-free and super fast no matter the terrain. And filling out the build are our Adventure Gear bars with 12 degrees of flare a Future Stem Pro an X-Fusion 50mm Manic Dropper seatpost and our fan-favorite Body Geometry Power Expert saddle.
- The Creo SL is the lightest e-bike in its class-literally kilograms lighter than the competition. Not only does the lightweight and stiff FACT 11r carbon frame inspire dancing on the pedals and diving into corners, but it also reduces overall system weight and increases the range.
- The lightweight SL 1.1 motor doubles your effort with as much as 240 watts of silent and powerful assistance to amplify your ride. The motor's responsive torque curve delivers power perfectly in-tune with your normal riding cadence and leaves no resistance when riding unassisted.
- Battery anxiety? Not on the Creo SL. With up to 80 miles of range from the internal battery, the Creo SL eats up big miles and long days. Our optional range extender provides up to 40 additional miles of mountain-flattening power.
- By connecting with our Mission Control App, you're able to tune the SL 1.1 motor to your riding style, record rides, and monitor the battery. The app can handle battery management automatically too, ensuring the battery will last as long as you need it to. The motor even has a built-in power meter that transmits to any ANT+ head unit. Don't want to connect? No worries- the Turbo Connect Unit (TCU) on the top tube gives you all the control you need to ride.
- With the Future Shock 2.0, you'll feel a reduction in fatigue and an increase in speed, no matter the terrain. The 2.0 iteration gives you more control via a knob atop the stem. This knob adjusts compression from fully-open to stiff, while hydraulically-damped internals control rebound. The new Smooth Boot, top cap, and Future Stem also enhance the aesthetic, so you get a clean transition from head tube to stem.
- We've learned there can be more difference between two male cyclists than between a male and female. Gender alone doesn't provide enough data to specialize. It means that separating bikes as male or female is arbitrary and outdated. With this in mind, we've developed a geometry that's best-fit for all riders. One that's comfortable and snappy on the road, yet features all of the attributes you'd want from a proper gravel bike—a long wheelbase, raked-out fork, and low bottom bracket that keeps the Turbo Creo SL EVO stable at high speeds and delivers control in corners.

SIMPLY. BETTER.
For the P5 we focused entirely on aero performance-within the boxes defined by the UCI, anyway. We applied years of experience in engineering the fastest aero bikes and real-world testing with our pro athletes. The result is a bike that pushes the boundaries in every way possible. We spent hours in CFD, FEA, and ISO testing and the reviews came back from our athletes: BRB.
The P5 has gotten significantly stiffer, but significantly lighter, as well. The frame shapes, handlebar, and fit positions, and design features work together to reduce drag and enhance your efficiency. We wanted a bike that would deliver an aerodynamic advantage over the S5, even in an uphill TT. The P5 is an ideal bike for World Tour racing and UCI-governed TT events, but it's also become a favorite of many of our long-course triathletes. If you don't need the onboard storage of the PX series or have a race with significant elevation gain, the P5 can be the perfect weapon in your race against the clock.

The new Tarmac is designed to go fast, there's no if's, and's, or but's about that—but it represents so much more than just aerodynamic prowess. With a light-weight, Rider-First Engineered frame, it delivers the best-possible ride characteristics, no matter the size. So no matter what you have planned for your new Tarmac, it's ready to help you achieve your goals—PRs, KOMs, or podium top-steps. One bike to rule them all.
With a full Shimano Ultegra Di2 electronic groupset to keep shifts crisp and fast, and S-Works Turbo 700x26mm tires to keep you rolling fast, this new Tarmac delivers performance at a more palatable price point.
- "Aero is everything"—we've been preaching it for years and it's still the driving force for the new Tarmac. In our quest for tube shapes that deliver the fastest frame that the UCI rules allow, we took a page out of the Venge development book and utilized our FreeFoil Shape Library. Armed with a library of optimized shapes, we turned to the Win Tunnel to plug these shapes into a modular test bike, for more testing and validation. The result? A new Tarmac Expert that's faster than before—33 seconds faster over 40km than the Tarmac SL6. No compromises, just pure speed.
- Building on the learnings from the Venge, the new Tarmac utilizes simple integration to create a clean, fast cockpit that's easy to live with. We've improved the routing for any configuration—mechanical shifting, traditional stems, round bars, etc.—all while keeping its aerodynamic attributes. These same traits also make the new Tarmac easy to work on and easy to travel with. It's a win-win.
- Continuing our quest to develop the perfect race bike, we used our Rider-First Engineered philosophy to ensure that the new Tarmac is the most balanced, best handling Tarmac yet—no matter the size. With an army of the world's best test riders from our three World Tour Teams—Boels-Dolmans, Deceuninck-Quick-Step, and Bora-hansgrohe—we made changes to the Tarmac based on their thousands of kilometers on the road. We balanced the ride quality between the front and rear end, so even the longest days in the saddle continue to be comfortable'all without giving up anything to the Tarmac's legendary handling and race-winning snappiness.
- While aerodynamics were paramount to the Tarmac's development, and to the development of all of our race bikes, weight was the co-pilot on this optimal race bike journey. Previously "aero bikes" always compromised in the weight department—the more drag you reduced, the more weight you gained. With the new Tarmac, our design philosophy was to keep it at, or below, the UCI weight limit out of the box, with no sacrifices to aerodynamics. And with the help of the FreeFoil Shape Library, tools like isotopic FEA analysis, and some engineering wizardry by the best engineers in the industry, we delivered a frame that weighs a mere 920 grams, without giving up a gram of aero, stiffness or ride quality.

Whether your goal is to escape on gravel back roads, far from cars and crowds, or drop the hammer at the front of your favorite gravel race, no bike does it better than the new Diverge. It's quite simply the fastest, most capable - and just maybe the most fun - bike we've ever made, delivering a ride that's quick and lively under power, but stable and confidence inspiring when the terrain gets rough. From Future Shock 2.0 and all-new gravel geometry, to internal storage and category leading tire clearance, the new Diverge represents everything we've learned over more than 40 years of riding road, gravel and dirt. The Diverge writes an entirely new chapter in the gravel bike category, so you can dream up entirely new rides. It's the ultimate getaway vehicle.
Imagine your biggest ride, dream of gravel racing glory, Diverge Pro's your partner in crime. It all starts with a FACT 9r carbon frame and Future Shock 2.0 for a light and lively ride that's incredibly stable and confidence inspiring. A huge range of gears, flawless shifts in any terrain, and a simple, wireless 1x set-up is provided by SRAM's Force AXS eTap group and SRAM's Orbit fluid clutch. Roval's ultralight and super tough Terra CL wheels with Kanza winning Pathfinder Pro 38mm tires deliver the most versatile and capable combination for mixed surface and challenging terrain, while a Roval Terra seat post ensures the Diverge Pro is perfectly balanced for the ultimate ride.
- Nothing unlocks a bike's capability like tire clearance, so we gave the new Diverge a whopping 47mm of tire clearance with a 700c wheel and 2.1" with a 650b wheel. Thanks to a drive side chain stay utilizing a solid beam of carbon behind the chain rings we've created clearance without using a fragile dropped chain stay design or increasing chain stay length.
- Speed, control and confidence - Future Shock 2.0 is the ultimate technology for the gravel rider. With 20mm of axial compliance and a hydraulic damper, Future Shock 2.0 suspends the rider not the bike. This keeps you confident and in control, able to keep the power down and stay off the brakes over rough dirt roads and in thick loose gravel, all while keeping your hands, arms and neck fresh. Since Future Shock 2.0's damper is adjustable, you—ll be ready for the rough stuff and efficient on smooth pavement.
- The more capable your bike, the bigger your rides get, so Diverge borrows SWAT internal storage from the legendary Stumpy. The SWAT door lets you utilize space in the down tube to store tools, a flat kit, nutrition and even our SWAT Jacket. It keeps weight off your body, low in the bike for better handling, and makes you more self-sufficient, so get out there. SWAT's got your back.
- We tossed gravel geometry 'status-quo' out the window. The new Diverge has the most progressive geometry we've ever created for a drop bar bike, giving riders a capable and stable bike in the dirt, that still feels responsive and nimble on the road. We've increased the frame's reach, introduced a slacker head tube and a longer offset fork. All this creates incredible confidence with a planted feeling in the dirt, while spec-ing shorter stems keeps the overall cockpit length the same and the steering lively. We've kept the bike's BB low to increase stability, but high enough to utilize with 650b wheels if that's your jam.
- We've given the Diverge plenty of rack mounts, including fork and top tube mounts, to ensure you can take what you need, no matter how far you plan to go, or how long you plan to stay out.
- With a FACT 9r carbon frame, the Diverge Expert frame is incredible capable and race bike light. Pin it for your local dirt climb KOM, or grind up a giant back country peak, the light and lively Diverge will get you there faster.

Aethos: Billions of calculations in the pursuit of one thing, the perfect ride. It's more than just a motto, it's a philosophy. The Aethos has been designed to straddle the line between a perfected ride quality, extreme lightweight, and undeniable style, and this Expert model is no exception.
With quick-shifting, low-maintenance Ultegra Di2 electronic shifting and hydraulic disc brakes paired with bomb-proof Roval C38 Disc carbon wheels, you have the perfect steed to get you out on the road.
- A featherweight frame is useless without confidence-inspiring ride characteristics, which is why we've developed the Aethos to have the perfect balance of front and rear stiffness combined with exceptional ride quality. Open UP SRAM Force AXS Gravel Bike
When the Open U.P first came onto the scene it was loved for its capability to fit either mountain bike or road wheels with a range of tyre sizes, meaning that your rides are no longer limited to surface type. In its 3rd generation the love for the U.P is exactly the same however, now, the frameset is; lighter, nimbler and more ready for adventure than ever before. Open call it "TRCinTRP". No, it's not some fancy tech name that CEO's took hours thinking up, it's a play on words standing for "The Right Carbon in The Right Place". In Lamen's terms, it means that high modulus carbon is not just slapped across the whole frameset, instead, the modulus of the carbon is correct for the exact area in which it is placed ensuring the frame is responsive, lightweight and able to cope with whatever the road or trail can throw at it. Here, at the TriStore, we have finished off one of our best selling framesets with a groupset that is made specifically designed for adventure riding. The SRAM AXS Eagle groupset features a 1x chainring and a wide rear cassette, removing the hassle of front derailleur shifting and ensuring you have plenty of gear range to ride up the hills and race down them.

Total control, unparalleled bump-eating suspension, and fine-tunable geometry are hallmarks of the all-new Stumpjumper EVO Expert. Top it off with a build that blends quality, affordability, and durability, and it's the perfect trail partner, no matter where those trails are, or how rowdy they get.
- All the travel in the world is useless without the proper shock tuning and kinematics. For the new Stumpjumper EVO design, we prioritized kinematic performance. Applying lessons learned while developing the Enduro, then following that with more than 1,000 hours of field and suspension lab development, we've not only improved the pedaling performance of the Stumpjumper, but we've made it more capable, agile, and lively. We increased anti-squat, so the suspension better resists pedal bob, and we further improved bump performance on square-edge hits. Bottom line? This thing shreds trails, not legs.
- The S-Sizing geometry of the new Stumpjumper EVO is our most progressive yet. Long, low, slack, short offset fork, steeper seat tube angle—these are requirements for modern progressive riding. But not everyone jibs the same way, which is why the geo on the new Stumpjumper EVO is fully adjustable with six different settings. You can adjust the BB height by 10mm, you can adjust your head angle by two degrees, and you can make these adjustments independently of each other. Finally, if you want to go full-party mullet-mode, the EVO lets you run a 27.5-inch rear wheel mated with a 29-inch front.
- Rider-First Engineered frames use a size-specific approach to ride characteristics that ensure benchmark handling and flawless performance, regardless of frame or rider size. Whether you're a jump-happy grom riding an S1, or a DH-fiend giant in need of the lengthy S6, you'll experience the same ride traits—rail-sharp cornering and balanced front and rear stiffness—at the lightest possible weight.
- We introduced the SWAT door on the Stumpjumper in 2016, adding room IN your frame for those "oh sh**t" necessities like pumps and spare tubes, and immediately rendering jersey pockets redundant. With the new Stumpjumper, we have increased the volume and added a SWAT Bladder, giving you an extra 22oz of water storage—the same size as a small water bottle—hidden in your downtube.

Why should you be forced to choose between aerodynamics and weight, between ride quality and speed? It's simple, you shouldn't. Enter the new Tarmac—climb on the lightest bike the UCI allows, then descend on the fastest. We've utilized our most advanced technologies, from our FreeFoil Shape Library to an all-new Rider-First Engineered™ frame, to deliver a race bike that is truly without compromise. The days of making sacrifices between "aero" and "lightweight" bikes are over—the all-new Tarmac is the fastest race bike, ever. One bike to rule them all.
This S-Works Tarmac Frameset is the perfect canvas to begin your dream build. Build your totally-custom dream bike, and be ready to ride fast.
"Aero is everything"—we've been preaching it for years and it's still the driving force for the new Tarmac. The result? A new Tarmac that's the fastest we've tested—45 seconds faster over 40km than the Tarmac SL6 (built with Aerofly II handlebars, sold separately). No compromises, just pure speed.
While aerodynamics were paramount to the Tarmac's development, and to the development of all of our race bikes, weight was the co-pilot on this optimal race bike journey. Previously "aero bikes" always compromised in the weight department—the more drag you reduced, the more weight you gained. With the new Tarmac, our design philosophy was to keep it at, or below, the UCI weight limit out of the box, with no sacrifices to aerodynamics. And with the help of the FreeFoil Shape Library, tools like isotopic FEA analysis, and some engineering wizardry by the best engineers in the industry, we delivered a frame that weighs a mere 800 grams, without giving up a gram of aero, stiffness or ride quality.
Continuing our quest to develop the perfect race bike, we used our Rider-First Engineered™ philosophy to ensure that the new Tarmac is the most balanced, best-handling Tarmac yet—no matter the size. With an army of the world's best test riders from our professional teams — TotalEnergies, SD-Worx, Quick-Step - Alpha Vinyl, and Bora-hansgrohe — we made changes to the Tarmac based on their thousands of kilometers on the road. We balanced the ride quality between the front and rear end, so even the longest days in the saddle continue to be comfortable—all without giving up anything to the Tarmac's legendary handling and race-winning snappiness.
Building on the learnings from the Venge, the new Tarmac utilizes simple integration to create a clean, fast cockpit that's easy to live with. We've improved the routing for any configuration — mechanical shifting, traditional stems, round bars, etc. — all while keeping its aerodynamic attributes. These same traits also make the new Tarmac easy to work on and easy to travel with. It's a win-win.

Soloist Disc 105 Di2 7100 Bike Specifications
Soloist Disc 105 Di2 7100 Bike Information
The Soloist has a long history in the success of Cervélo. It was used as the main weapon of Cervélo teams in the World Tour before specialized aero and climbing bikes became the norm. The new Soloist is designed for the everyday rider who needs versatility. It is lighter in weight than the S5 but also more aerodynamic than the R5. Not everyone can justify owning multiple performance bikes to tackle mountains one day and sprints then next. That is where the Soloist comes in. With just one bike in your garage, you will be able to perform to a high standard on any road you set out on.
Sitting between the S5 and R5 in terms of its performance attributes, the Soloist is the definition of “just right.” It comes in at 250 grams lighter than the S5 and 250 grams heavier than the world-class climbing R5. It is also 190 grams slower than the aero-specialized S5 but 126 grams faster than the R5. In addition to this perfect balance, it comes in with a much lower price tag than either of those professional-level specialized bikes. The Soloist looks and performs like a race bike but does not pick just one area to shine in.
The geometry of the Soloist was based heavily on that of the R5. The R5 is known for its stability and precision on climbs and descents alike. This leads to some of the best handling on the market with the added bonus of some extra aerodynamics. It is also designed to fit tires up to 34mm wide, helping more terrain be conquered. This version features Fulcrum Racing 600 wheels. The frame also routes cables internally, helping keep them out of the wind and maintain a sleek look. This version is equipped with a Shimano 105 Di2 groupset for some of the most affordable 12-speed electronic shifting you can find. The Cervélo Soloist is your key to a one-bike garage of fun and performance.

The Soloist. It's a name from deep in our history, but immediately familiar to anyone with bike racing memories extending back to the early-2000s. It was the weapon of choice for top World Tour contenders on CSC and the Cervelo Test Team, and we're bringing it back for a new generation. The new Soloist is designed for the week-in, week-out rider and racer who can only justify one high-performance bike. It balances light weight and aerodynamic advantages to deliver a bike that really is 'just right'. Soloist comes in a hair lighter than S5, but significantly more aerodynamic than R5, and borrows the threaded bottom bracket standard you find on the R5-CX. It's a race bike that can accommodate mechanical and electronic shifting, can hammer out the training miles in all weather, and yet still has the chops to leap off the front at that decisive moment. That's the Soloist.

With seven wins at Paris-Roubaix, our Roubaix has proven that Smoother is Faster. Until this moment, however, smooth has admittedly come with some compromises. But not anymore. The all-new Roubaix Expert now delivers compliance without compromise by introducing a radical new Future Shock 2.0 that gives you more control and damping options, a new Pave seatpost that creates our most balanced Roubaix to date, aerodynamics that equal the Tarmac, and a Rider-First Engineered frame that's shed some serious weight. Is it still comfortable? Sure, but don't call it a comfort bike, because performance was behind every engineering decision we made. This is the new Roubaix.
This Roubaix Comp provides a tremendous value, but like the frame itself, this value doesn't come with any compromises. We spec'd it with SRAM's wireless Rival eTap AXS 12-speed groupset for its crisp shifts and powerful hydraulic disc brakes, as well as smooth and sturdy DT R470 Disc wheels, the all-new S-Works Pave seatpost, 28mm Turbo Pro tires, and our fan-favorite Power Comp saddle.
- The Future Shock 2.0 is the result of our pro rider's demands for the cobbles of Roubaix. It's smoother, faster, and gives you more control via a knob atop the stem. This knob adjusts compression from fully open to stiff, while hydraulically-damped internals control rebound. Add it up, and this latest version will reduce fatigue and increase your speed, no matter the terrain. The new Smooth Boot, top cap, and Future Stem also enhance the aesthetic, so you get a clean transition from head tube to stem.
- The new frame delivers compliance without compromise via the perfect balance of aerodynamics, light overall weight via a FACT 10r carbon construction, compliance, and Rider-First Engineering. With tube shapes that were born in our FreeFoil Shape Library and validated in the Win Tunnel, the new Roubaix is more aero than the Tarmac SL6. Meanwhile, to ensure the weight and ride quality, we turned to a Rider-First Engineered design to deliver optimal stiffness and compliance across all sizes, from 44 to 64cm. Of course, the frame has shed some serious weight in the process. And to prep you for your own Hell of the North, we've made room for 33mm tires.
- To go along with the new frame, we've also developed a totally new S-Works Pave seatpost. Not only is it the first compliant seatpost that's ALSO aerodynamic, but it also does so without any additional weight or finicky contraptions. Starting with the same D-shape design found on the Tarmac, we took its compliance a step further by building additional flex into the upper and developing a new drop-clamp design in the frame. This provides plenty of compliance while staying perfectly balanced with the front-end, so you get a smooth, balanced ride no matter how rough the road.

Flat Out. That's how Aspero debuted under the characters of the Wednesday Night Rough Club two years ago, and that's how it's stayed. And because at Cervelo we know that flat out doesn't stay flat out for long without a little help from science, we've come back from the drawing board with a new Aspero. A faster Aspero, a lighter Aspero, and—dare we say it—an even better-looking Aspero.
Our engineers like to say, "If it looks fast, it probably is"—but there's some truth to it, and Aspero-5 looks fast standing still. No cables in the wind, tubes derived from our library of aerodynamically proven shapes, and just a hint of a cut out in the seat tube to squeak out just a bit more tire clearance, add up to a bike that proves the adage.
Lightweight Speed
Some might say aero doesn't matter on a gravel bike, but if you've battled a headwind across an open prairie, the thirty-two grams of drag you'll save with the Aspero-5 come as a welcome respite. Most gravel racing is done without the benefit of a World Tour peloton—or World Tour tactics—and when it's your nose in the wind all day, it's nice to know your bike's shouldering a bit of the load.
Two-Position Adjustment
"Trail", or front wheel response to rider input, is the most critical factor in high-velocity handling. The ability to adjust trail with the two-position "Trail Mixer" to compensate for the extreme range of tire sizes ensures a uniform ride experience.
Multiple Configurations
We engineered the bike to fit most 700x42 or 650x49 tire/wheel combos, comfortably. Of course, there are variables—rim width, tire casing/tread depth—which will affect final clearance. IMPORTANT NOTE: We always recommend there to be 4mm of clearance around whichever tire/wheel combo is installed on the bike.

U.P.P.E.R. Frameset Information
Open Cycles builds light and strong. And they knew they could make their UP frameset even lighter. That meant they had to build one. The result is the UPPER.
Think same geometry, same ride qualities, just lighter. Lighter means a few things here. First, they built their own fork, the Open U-Turn. Second, more complex carbon-fiber lay-up with more expensive carbon plies. Third is flat mount brakes. In all, the bike fits, the same, rides the same, but is trimmed of the precious little fat that Open had actually left on the table.
Flat mount disc brake calipers are the rage. They allow for lighter calipers to be fixed to the frame, but they’re only lighter if the adapters that are usually necessary with flat mount brakes are removed. Open designed their mounts so adapters are unnecessary. The result is an even lighter build and no choice in rotor sizing. It’s 160mm in front, 140mm in back, unless you want to add those adapters back on. A side effect is the bolts go through the fork and frame.
If you’re reading about the UPPER, we assume you know a bit about the UP: a single bike that can race and ride on road and off and handle cyclocross in style. It has the manners to feel comfortable at low speeds and high, and handle both straight lines and tight turns with aplomb. They call it “gravel plus.”
This bike is designed to accept both 700c and 650b wheels. You can run up to a 40mm wide 700c tire and up to a 2.1” wide 650b (aka 27.5”) tire. That 40mm ‘cross tire actually results in a 8mm greater diameter than the seemingly big 2.1” 650b. While the flexibility is nice, it was to improve performance in all conditions. Part of the performance issue was keeping chainstays as short as possible. In this case, 420mm. It’s a length is rather short for this application, and it’s a performance benefit. Shorter wheelbase, lighter frame, snappier responses to power spikes. You’ll notice that the right chainstay is dropped. This is to fit both the tires and the chainrings without either rubbing the frame.
The gearing is more flexible than tire choices. You can run a single or double ring, with electronic, mechanical, or hydraulic shifting. The inner ring max is 36t, the outer ring max is 50t. When you’re running single chainrings, you can go up to a 46t single if it’s an offset style like SRAM’s, or a 50t if you’re using a flat style ring.
Cables, btw, run internally regardless of the style. The battery, if you choose Shimano Di2, sits inside the post. The single stop on the side of the head tube is small, light, clean, and leads to a system that routes easily and saves weight. They call it MultiStop.
The bottom bracket utilizes the BB386EVO standard. It’s wide, 86.5mm, and large diameter, 42mm, which is a big easel on which to design the points at which the downtube, stays, and seat tube join. Most cranks will fit.
As is designer Gerard Vroomen’s want, the seat angle is 73-degrees. This is for a simple reason. It results in a lighter system because you can use a zero-setback seatpost. Lighter overall system weight, and zero effect on performance. The seatpost also helps strengthen the frame-a too-short post leaves the seat tube unsupported. To ensure the proper length, there’s a pilot hole in the seat tube. So long as the post can be seen (and it’s precise enough that it doesn’t let water in), you’re good. The shaping is almost square at the bottom, and it tapers to a round 27.2mm size at the top. Better for a light, compliant, round post.
The post is at the top of the seat stays, which themselves are super-thin, and flattened for vertical flex and torsional stiffness. The chainstays are as well, though it’s much harder to see.
The downtube has been designed for torsional stiffness. High-modulus carbon on the sides, and lower-modulus in the middle. Likewise, the top and downtubes are as widely-spaced as possible to improve torsional strength for the fork. This is why the top of the headset is flush with the top tube. Internally, The U.P. runs a tapered 1 1/8” to 1 1/2” steerer, also for rigidity. The fork, also set up for wide tires, same widths as the rear end, includes an superlight 12mm thru-axle from Carbon-Ti that tightens via a 5mm hex head key.
The rear wheel attaches to the frame via a 142mm thru-axle. They figured out how to save weight here as well. The axle threads through the derailleur hanger and locks it to the frame. Simple, too. They recommend they send the Carbon-Ti thru-axle, but others work as well. The brake mounts are on the chainstay to allow the seat stay to flex more.
The frame comes with the fork, headset, seat tube collar, thru-axles, two derailleur hangers (one on the frame, one spare), removable front derailleur hanger, cover bolts for derailleur hanger studs, MultiStops for cable routing, chainstay cable exit stop, bottom bracket guide, cab

A BIKE FOR THE WAY RIDERS RIDE
Caledonia doesn't fit in a box nicely, and we like it that way. It was conceived on our Thursday night rides-routes that often play fast and loose with 'road ride.' As we tried to stuff bigger tires into our R5s and streamline our Asperos, a new kind of bike was born.
When we design a bike, we start with our library of tube shapes. These shapes are tubes we've used on other models that we know to have various qualities-aerodynamic, stiff, ultralight, etc.-and they help get us to the refinement stage on a bike more quickly. In the case of Caledonia, we wanted durability, lightweight, and aerodynamics to be in balance and selected a package that achieved the performance demands of this kind of race bike.
Caledonia uses a standard round bar, stem, and seat post, giving riders the option to build their ultimate ride without compromise. Integrated accessory mounts and hidden fender mounts keep the bike's refined lines so you can ride with lights and computers in a downpour and still look fast. Because we all know if it looks fast, it probably is.
Rather than designing multiple versions of the bike with various fit profiles (R5, R-Series, etc.) like we've done in the past, we designed a system that enables a broad range of fits on a single bike while maintaining the aesthetic and functional cleanliness we demand. Modern road riders are looking for bikes to handle long-distance, high pace, no limits, and offer maximum fun. By placing lower modulus carbon in key areas to mitigate the brittleness of hi-mod fiber-the Caledonia delivers performance, comfort, and speed. Oh, and you can fit a 34mm tire in there. Or 31mm with fenders.
