THE FIRST AERO JERSEY PROJECT WAS CALLED SPLIT SECOND When Castelli engineered the first aero jersey for road racing back in 2006, everyone thought we were crazy. Back then, aero was only for TTs. Performance clothing meant moisture management. And you could win the Tour de France with a baggy jersey that was little more than a polyester T-shirt. Even our aerodynamic consultants expected limited gains, so we named the jersey Split Second, though, like now, we thought even small gains were worth pursuing. In the end the gains were pretty substantial, and we completely revolutionized the look of the pro peloton. We're now on the sixth major revision of our aero jersey. Each generation has become more aero and better fitting. The Aero Race 6.0 benefits heavily from CFD analysis of wake flow in the riding position for fabric and seam placement. It also benefits from Team Ineos riders' feedback, as we've worked to make the jersey comfortable for their long hours of training and then racing in every possible weather condition. The Pro in the Diluvio Pro name indicates that this product comes from a request from Team Ineos riders for an even warmer bootie for training in cold and wet conditions. We made the neoprene 33% thicker and raised the height to cover the lower leg up to just under the calf muscle. Just like the name says, we wanted to create the ideal simple emergency rain jacket. We made it completely waterproof and compact, and, as you'd expect from Castelli, we also gave it an amazing on-bike fit, yet it's still roomy enough to fit over a Gabba. It has all the trappings of a performance rain jacket, with the waterproof zipper, long tail, long sleeves, and wrist closures that can go over gloves, yet we knew you wouldn't want to break the bank with it, so the only real compromise compared to our top-of-the-line offerings is in breathability. We kept the styling toned down and added a bright colorway in Fiery Red so that you can easily use this as a commute jacket and still look great when you get to the office. This glove was designed for long-distance rides, with extra padding in the palm and premium materials throughout. The palm has gel padding and a poron insert at the median nerve, on top of an ultrasoft synthetic suede. Like the ultimate race short, only less This isn't quite a "boy short" with a very low waist and short legs, but it is a shorter short than the Castelli free 2 w tri short. A tri top has never been this comfortably fast Tri fashion (and the wind tunnel) have pushed toward short-sleeve tops, but we think there's still a place for the traditional sleeveless top. It's more comfortable on the run and cooler in hot weather. . . And maybe you're just a traditionalist. Innovative evolution The Free Aero RC Bibshort is our top race short, which also means that it's insanely comfortable even if you never pin on a number. It's fair to say that we've been working on this short for the past 15 years. That's how long it's been since the original free aero race bibshort was first introduced, initially as our top-of-the-line race short. Since then it has won three Tours de France, three Gri d'Italia, one Vuelta, and San Remo, but it also became the best-selling product in the history of Castelli because, simply put, this is the short that does everything well. The concept is quite simple: start with the best pad we know how to make, surround it with a supportive short with good muscle compression, and then remove everything else that's not absolutely necessary. You feel free thanks to the reduced number of panels and the reduced number of seams. In fact, the short portion has just 5 panels compared to 10 in the previous generation. You feel free because of further refinements to the Progetto X2 air seamless seat pad. The two densities of foam plus the gel pads provide progressive damping, while the separate skincare layer is soft and stretchy to move with your skin. You feel free thanks to the most minimal bibs you've ever seen in a short, including open-weave straps for maximum airflow. But we reinforced the yoke so the straps stay in place and made the mesh back narrow for coverage that is minimal yet just enough to hold the shorts in place. NOT YOUR NORMAL REMOVABLE-SLEEVE JACKET We went back to the design table to come up with a better way to make a removable-sleeve jacket and in the process created a brilliantly versatile jacket. The zippers sit just above the elbow and cover 3/4 of the circumference of the arm. With the sleeves in place, you have Castelli's top-performing Perfetto RoS long-sleeve jacket. Remove the sleeves and you have a real Gabba to wear with your Nano Flex arm warmers. The zippers are covered so you don't see them from the outside or feel them from the inside. For Winter 2019 the Perfetto Convertible gets the RoS treatment: Rain or Shine. The same breathability and fit you've come to expect from the Perfetto, but now with significantly improved rain protection, including seam sealing on the shoulders. With INEOS Grenadiers we set out to make a better seamless arm warmer. Others on the market are made with a nylon/Lycra blend that tends to hold moisture, but we knew we could get better moisture management with a polyester yarn. Working with polyester makes it more difficult to get the right stretch, return and manufacturing consistency, though. It took a year longer than we thought, but we're all glad we stuck with it. These warmers are a pro rider favorite because they're crazy light and they're extremely warm for their weight, yet even in milder conditions you don't overheat.
